Automated Odor Mitigation for Natural Gas Blowdowns
The Welker Odorant Neutralizer System (ONS) is a custom-engineered solution designed to help minimize mercaptan odors during natural gas blowdowns and venting operations. When a release begins, the system automatically distributes OdorXice™ Plus through spray nozzles positioned around the vent stack, helping neutralize odor before the vented gas travels beyond the facility.
Designed for pipelines, compressor stations, city gate stations, and other facilities near populated areas, the ONS provides a practical alternative when flaring is unavailable, prohibited, or impractical. Each system is configured around the customer’s release volume, event duration, vent dimensions, and required spray coverage.
Pipeline Blowdowns
Help mitigate mercaptan odors during planned maintenance, pipeline depressurization, and system modifications.
Emergency Shutdowns
Automatically apply neutralizer during large or unplanned venting events when release pressure is detected.
Compressor and Gate Stations
Reduce odor impacts at natural gas facilities located near homes, businesses, schools, or other public areas.
Routine Venting Operations
Provide repeatable odor mitigation for facilities that regularly depressurize equipment or release odorized gas.
Resources
Automatic Pressure-Responsive Activation
Pressure sensors detect when a blowdown or venting event begins and ends. The ONS automatically sprays neutralizer while release pressure is present, eliminating the need for an operator to manually initiate or time the neutralization cycle.
Engineered Spray Nozzle Distribution
Spray nozzles positioned around the release point distribute neutralizer directly into the vented gas stream. Nozzle size, quantity, placement, and spray coverage are engineered around the vent or stack dimensions and expected release conditions.
OdorXice™ Plus Neutralization
The system distributes Welker OdorXice™ Plus into the vented gas stream to help neutralize mercaptan odors before they travel beyond the facility, reducing odor impacts on nearby communities.
Integrated Monitoring and Controls
A touchscreen controller provides visibility into system status, operating conditions, event timing, and alarms. Real-time neutralizer level monitoring helps operators plan refills and maintain system readiness.
Optional Multi-Stack Capability
A single neutralizer supply system can be configured to support multiple vent-stack panels, reducing equipment duplication and simplifying odor mitigation across the facility.
Custom-Engineered System Package
Each ONS is engineered around the customer’s estimated gas-release volume, venting duration, event frequency, release-point dimensions, installation environment, and required spray coverage. This application-specific approach helps ensure the system is appropriately configured for the facility.
